After suddenly losing his job of eleven years, Dannie had no choice but to leave his home. He found shelter for his family with friends and loved ones, but faced the constant struggle of moving from house to house with his daughters Kaelie and Chloe.
Dannie carried a heavy burden as a father trying desperately to provide, a father trying to get his family back on their feet. “Without a stable home, it put my kids in a rough situation. We miss those days of having our own place, our own rules, our privacy, our freedom.”
Like many Habitat partner families, Dannie came to Habitat for Humanity looking for a fresh start. He found work that provides a steady income. He got his finances under control. He upheld his commitment to be the best father he can be. Through Habitat, he’s taking hold of a hand up, not a hand out.
At Habitat for Humanity, there are many hard-working fathers like Dannie who want to plant seeds of strength and stability so their children can rise with hope to face the future. On Father’s Day, your gift in memory or honor of a father’s legacy can help dads in our community build safe and stable homes. And in each home, a new and lasting legacy will be built.
Chloe learned valuable lessons from Dannie as she watched him join with Habitat to fight back from what seemed like a hopeless situation. “I’m so thankful for my dad because he works and he builds with Habitat. He taught us not to give up.”
Right now, Dannie is building his house – his family's future home. He’s a very proud dad who is looking ahead to family get-togethers, quality time with Kaelie and Chloe, and future opportunities that are built on the foundation of a decent, affordable home. "For me, family is everything. I think this house will be a great foundation for our family. It will give us something secure, something we can hold on to."
