family and current housing
Habitat is excited to partner with Cammie Brooks and her family to help them achieve their goal of homeownership. After years of moving between private rentals and government housing, Cammie and her five children moved in with Cammie’s mother. While grateful to her mother for opening her home and sharing her living space for the past six years, the three bedroom home has become quite overcrowded. When Cammie’s employer advertised an opportunity for homeownership through the Habitat for Humanity program, she jumped at the chance and was accepted into the program. Cammie eagerly looks forward to providing her children with a stable, consistent home environment where they can live and grow together. The Brooks family is very active in sports: Camya, Markia, and Anaja all play volleyball; Marionna participates in gymnastics and cheerleading; and Marionna’s twin brother, Marcus, plays basketball. Soon, these children will hit a volleyball, tumble, and shoot hoops in their own yard.

a bright future
Throughout her time in the Habitat program, Cammie will invest numerous hours of sweat equity on Habitat worksites and at ReStore. She will also complete the ten week House2Home education series learning valuable skills regarding homeownership, maintenance, and personal and financial wellness. In addition to completing the Habitat requirements and raising her children, Cammie works fulltime as an STNA (State Tested Nurse Aide) and is also enrolled in school to earn her degree in nursing. Although she is balancing a lot right now, Cammie is committed to making a short term sacrifice for the long term benefit of owning a home. When asked what she looks forward to most, Cammie’s answer was simple. “I am looking forward to being a homeowner, and our family being able to have a space of our own.”
