Family and Current Housing

Jordan was born and raised in Canton and looks forward to continuing her life and raising her daughter in the area. She and her daughter, Lo’elle, currently live in an apartment where the rent continues to rise. Unfortunately, the unit has several maintenance issues, including windows that don’t open properly and signs of water damage on the bathroom ceiling. While the apartment has a patio, the door does not fully close, allowing air to leak in—Jordan uses a stick to keep it shut. In the living room, only two outlets function properly. The family also experiences breaker issues often. The stove has not been replaced despite being broken, making it difficult for Jordan to cook meals. As a result, she relies on a microwave or has to eat out, which adds to her expenses. The most concerning issue, however, is the safety of their apartment. A man repeatedly tries to enter their apartment, often banging on the windows. For their safety, Jordan and Lo’elle sometimes stay at her parents’ house overnight. Additionally, their current living conditions provide no safe space for Lo’elle to play and grow. After learning about the Habitat East Central Ohio Homeownership Program from a friend who is a Habitat homeowner, Jordan applied in hopes of securing a stable home for her family. She has been working diligently in the program, participating in sweat equity assignments and completing her homebuyer education classes in the fall of 2024. These classes have equipped her with essential knowledge about financial wellness and home maintenance, preparing her for the responsibilities of homeownership. 

A Bright Future

Jordan works as a medical assistant at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. Once she becomes a homeowner, she hopes to further her education and become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Lo’elle loves playing outside, going to the park, and singing. She dreams of becoming a gymnast when she grows up, and her favorite subject in preschool is learning her ABCs. With her new home, Jordan looks forward to providing a stable and nurturing environment for Lo’elle and her new baby. She is confident that homeownership will bring peace, happiness, and stability to their lives, allowing her children to grow and thrive.
