  • Family and Current Housing

Jennifer, a Canton native, currently lives in a private rental that has become increasingly unaffordable. She recently learned that her rent will increase by an additional $200 per month, placing a significant strain on her ability to cover basic expenses. In addition to these financial challenges, Jennifer has taken in her mother, Kathy, following the passing of her father. Kathy is unable to afford housing on her own, and Jennifer’s current rental does not adequately accommodate her mother’s needs. A single-story home will be a tremendous blessing for the Chester family.

While Jennifer has adult children and grandchildren, she made the loving decision to take full custody of her niece, McKenzie, when she was just two years old. McKenzie was not born into a stable environment, and Jennifer stepped in to ensure she had the safety, consistency, and care every child deserves. She has raised McKenzie ever since.

Since joining the Habitat program, Jennifer has demonstrated a strong work ethic and deep commitment. She has completed her sweat-equity hours at the ReStore, in the Habitat workshop, and across several Habitat ECO construction sites, assisting other partner families in building their homes. In the spring of 2025, Jennifer successfully completed her homebuyer education classes, gaining valuable skills in budgeting, financial planning, and home maintenance.

    A Bright Future

Jennifer has worked at Summa Hospital as a Support Assistant Worker in the operating room for the past three years. She and her family look forward to spending time together in their new home—going on walks, enjoying movie nights, and sharing meals together. McKenzie does well in school and loves art.

Jennifer is most excited about the stability and peace of mind that come with an affordable mortgage and a home where her family can truly be comfortable.
