Family and Current Housing
Jamie, a resident of Stark County, spent her childhood in her parents’ owned home but has not owned a home as an adult raising her three children. Before moving to her current rental, she lived in an apartment plagued by bedbug outbreaks, poorly addressed by the management. Subsequently, she qualified for section 8 housing and moved to her current rental, but due to increased employment, she was removed from the voucher two years ago. In her six years of renting the home, Jamie has experienced different landlords, resulting in higher payments and minimal renovations. The current residence has air leaks, poor insulation, making temperature regulation challenging. Challenges arise from moldy walls and ceilings in the bathroom, along with drainage problems leading to sewage backup. Holes in the roof are large enough for animals to enter. Despite seeking other rentals, Jamie finds the costs prohibitive. Limited by her incapacity to carry out essential renovations, given that she doesn’t own the property, and considering the costs in the housing market, before joining Habitat, she perceived the dream of owning her own home as unattainable. After discussing her housing struggles with a fellow Habitat homeowner, she decided to apply for the Habitat homeownership program. Determined to improve her housing situation, Jamie actively participates in the Habitat homeownership program, attending mandatory homebuyer educational classes. These classes provide essential knowledge in financial wellness and home maintenance, guiding her journey towards homeownership.

A Bright Future
Jamie, a Quality Assurance Clerk at Case Farms for over two years, takes pride in her children’s achievements. Timothy is attending college and working as a mechanic, Natalie has graduated from high school and is deciding on her college, and Kaylynn, a high school sophomore, excels academically. Together, they enjoy walks, concerts, and quality time. Jamie anticipates the chance to offer her children a genuine home. Even if they eventually decide to establish their own lives beyond her future home, she delights in the notion that her home will serve as the anchor for her family.
