Family and Current Housing
Mike and Deanne are currently raising their young family in Massillon, Ohio. Both parents grew up in rentals and trailers and they are excited to provide their children with a home that they own. Currently, the family lives in a 2-bedroom duplex in Massillon. Mike and Deanne’s current housing situation presents several challenges that have inspired their pursuit of homeownership through Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio. The rental home they currently reside in has several maintenance issues. The windows are broken, causing air leaks that impact insulation and energy efficiency. The roof requires replacement, which is crucial for protecting the home from the elements. Additionally, plaster falling off the ceiling poses safety and maintenance concerns. Proper heating is challenging due to poor insulation. This can lead to discomfort and increased energy costs. The recent increase in rent, compounded by issues with the property, has added financial strain. Their attempts to secure a conventional mortgage were impeded by credit barriers, limiting their ability to transition to homeownership through traditional methods. Since joining the program, Mike and Deanne have been actively engaged in a comprehensive set of homebuyer educational classes. These classes cover crucial topics such as financial wellness and home maintenance, providing them with essential knowledge for their journey towards homeownership. Furthermore, they’ve worked sweat equity hours by assisting other Habitat partner families in the construction of their homes.
A Bright Future
Deanne is currently employed at Tractor Supply, while Mike takes on the role of caring for their children. As a family, they cherish outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, biking, and spending time at parks, fostering beautiful moments together. They eagerly anticipate the profound impact a new home will bring to their lives, emphasizing the privileges and freedoms that homeownership will offer, along with the invaluable equity it will provide. They envision a warm, cozy space to call their own, a source of blessing and peace of mind. Moreover, owning a home will enable them to initiate savings for their children’s future education. Their excitement is palpable as they eagerly anticipate creating new and cherished memories in their very first home.
