Family and Current Housing
Meghan and Maverick currently reside in a private rental townhome in Massillon, facing various concerns. One significant issue is the inadequate heating and cooling of the home, partially attributed to air leaks around doors and windows. This makes it challenging to maintain a comfortable temperature, especially with the second story being excessively cold in winter, affecting Meghan and Maverick’s sleep. Conversely, during summer, running the air conditioning unit at a low setting becomes necessary. The temperature regulation is crucial due to Meghan’s medical conditions—Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and orthostatic hypertension, making her susceptible to episodes in extreme weather. Furthermore, signs of roof damage are evident, addressed temporarily with tarps, and water damage is widespread throughout the rental. The electrical wiring is in poor condition, causing numerous issues for the family. Meghan’s primary life goal is to secure a decent and affordable home where she can raise Maverick comfortably. In spring, Meghan plans to participate in homebuyer educational classes, covering financial wellness, home maintenance, and essential topics to prepare for homeownership.
A Bright Future
Meghan is employed at Aspen Dental, initially hired as a receptionist and insurance specialist. In December 2023, she completed certification as a dental assistant, reflecting her commitment to personal and professional growth. Despite facing financial constraints that led her to drop out of college, Meghan remains determined to pursue her educational aspirations. Stability in housing is seen as a crucial factor that will enable her to focus on her education with a positive outlook. Meghan describes Maverick as an adventurous and highly independent child who loves baseball. He is eager to try his hand at tee ball this year. Adding to the family dynamic, Meghan has a service dog named Mocka, providing assistance and support in her daily life.
