Family and Current Housing
Jessica has deep roots in western Stark County, especially in Massillon, which she considers the anchor of her life. However, finding stable housing in the area has been a struggle for her. Recent challenges in her living situation forced her to move back in with her mother, a tough choice made after her landlord suddenly sold her home of five years.
As a single mother of four daughters, Jessica's determination to find a permanent home has only grown. She wants to give her children a stable place where they can grow and thrive. But for now, they're living in cramped conditions, without enough space for Jessica to have her own bedroom. Despite these difficulties, she's grateful for her mother's support. The harsh reality of the rental market makes owning a home seem like a distant dream, but Jessica found hope when she was accepted into the Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio homeownership program.
In Spring 2024, Jessica will be joining other prospective homeowners for homebuyer education classes with Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio, learning about financial management, home maintenance, estate planning, and personal development. Jessica is excited to gain the knowledge she needs to buy a Habitat home.
A Bright Future
Jessica works as a Machine Operator at ScottsMiracle-Gro, where she's been proving herself for over nine years. Despite concerns about her physical size for the job, her determination and capability have made her one of the company's most reliable workers. She hopes her daughters—Autymn, who's interested in design school; Brooke, who loves video games; Abygail, who enjoys cooking and painting; and Emma, the youngest, who loves to sing—will learn from her determination.
To Jessica, a future home means more than just a place to live. It represents hope and the power of overcoming tough times. It's about showing her daughters the importance of perseverance, independence, and self-sufficiency, laying the groundwork for a legacy of empowered women for generations to come.
