Family and Current Housing
Michele currently lives in a two-bedroom apartment in Massillon with her three children. The rental has several issues, including inadequate door locks, which is a significant concern because her youngest child, who is autistic, can easily escape. Additionally, the bathroom has water damage from previously busted pipes that caused flooding. Growing up, Michele moved frequently and lived with various relatives, relocating from Delaware to Ohio after graduating high school. This instability left her feeling like she never had a real home. Determined to provide a stable environment for her children, Michele seeks a more suitable living situation. The current rental is not only cramped for the family but also challenging to manage her special needs child’s sensory requirements. With the crowded space as a challenge, she knows that finding a place with adequate space will exceed her housing budget. A home with sufficient space that is also affordable would greatly improve her family’s overall well-being. In the fall of 2023, Michele successfully completed all the homebuyer education requirements. She attended mandatory classes on financial wellness and home maintenance, gaining essential knowledge for homeownership. She also demonstrated her commitment by contributing sweat equity hours at the Habitat ReStore alongside other families in the program.

A Bright Future
Michele and her children enjoy going to the movies and traveling to the beach whenever they can. The children love playing baseball and soccer, and they cherish going on fun trips together. Michele works in the Fraud Department at Discover Inc. Her job allows her to have flexibility with hours because she often needs to be available to take her special needs child to appointments and to support him at school. She looks forward to making the Habitat home her own, providing a stable and comfortable space for her children.
