Family and Current Housing
Aaron was born and spent her early years in the Stark County area before moving to Florida with her family as a child. They lived in rentals throughout her upbringing, often moving every year, which left Aaron longing for stable housing for her own son. After struggling to make a living in Florida, she returned to Stark County, where she currently resides and has been in her current rental for five years. The rental has several issues: the upstairs windows do not open, posing a fire hazard, and the front door is not secure and opens easily. Leaks from the toilet have caused mold in the bathroom and kitchen, and the house is difficult to keep warm in winter due to a drafty attic and lack of insulation. Additionally, there have been several recent car break-ins, adding to her safety concerns. Aaron’s attempts to secure a mortgage on the open market were denied due to her income. In spring 2024, Aaron successfully completed all the homebuyer education requirements. She attended mandatory classes on financial wellness and home maintenance, gaining essential knowledge for homeownership. Alongside other families in the program, she demonstrated her commitment by contributing sweat equity hours to help build homes for other Habitat partner families. This experience highlighted her resilience and proactive approach to improving her family’s circumstances.

A Bright Future
Upon acceptance into the Habitat program, Aaron was working at group homes for two different companies, assisting developmentally disabled individuals in living independently. Despite her full-time job and commitment to her Habitat hours, she also attended cosmetology school and graduated with her license this past spring. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to work in a field she loves. Aaron describes her son, Kaiden, as very smart and an avid reader. He enjoys creating his own board and card games, is deeply interested in coding, and aspires to develop his own video game. Together, they enjoy going on walks and watching movies. In the summertime, they love swimming and having water fights, and they also enjoy taking their dog, Honey, out for adventures. Aaron believes this home will be life-changing. She looks forward to having a safe place where she can continue raising her son. She has often dreamed of Kaiden waking up in his own home, and now that dream is within reach.
