Family and Current Housing
Landina was born and raised in Stark County and is eager to build a home in the community she loves. She and her children have lived in their current private rental for eleven years after transitioning from government housing. At first, the rental felt like a step forward, but over time, conditions have worsened with little to no repairs. The home’s old windows cause constant drafts, and the furnace frequently goes out, forcing the family to rely on space heaters. Each winter, Landina fears the pipes will freeze. The kitchen and attic ceilings are sagging with visible water damage, particularly under the second-story bathroom, where a hole has formed. The home’s age also contributes to a damp basement that attracts mice and other rodents. Landina is especially concerned about her daughter’s asthma, as the vents need cleaning, and lead paint is present in the home. The unsafe neighborhood, plagued by drug activity and registered sex offenders, adds to her worries. Encouraged by a close friend, Landina applied to the Habitat East Central Ohio homeownership program, bringing her one step closer to her dream of a safe, stable home. She has worked hard in the program, completing sweat equity hours and homebuyer education classes covering financial wellness and home maintenance—valuable knowledge that will help her transition confidently into homeownership.
A Bright Future
Landina loves her job as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at St. Joseph’s Senior Living Center, where she cares for memory care and dementia patients. Her son, ExZiriaun, joined the Marines right after high school and has a passion for sports and Asian culture. Her daughter, Imanni, enjoys playing softball and dancing. The family also has a pet turtle, Aries, whom they love caring for. Together, they enjoy board games and assembling 1,000-piece puzzles. For Landina, a new home means more than just a roof over their heads—it represents stability, comfort, and a fresh start. With a safe and secure home, her family can truly focus on spending quality time together, growing, and building a brighter future.

In Support of Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio
As a grassroots Christian housing ministry serving Stark, Carroll, Tuscarawas, Harrison, and Jefferson Counties, Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio is driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live. People partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering, or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.
