Family and Current Housing

Bryan and Jeanne’ currently live in a small rental home in Canton that has become increasingly challenging for their multi-generational household. After spending several years in Pennsylvania, the Paynther family returned to Bryan’s hometown of Canton to be closer to family and to support his mother, Selena, as she ages. With affordability concerns and Selena’s neurological health challenges impacting her mobility, the family has struggled to find housing that truly meets their needs.

Their current home is overcrowded, forcing Bryan Jr. to share a bedroom with his parents, making independence and privacy difficult for everyone. The rental also has electrical issues and lacks a safe outdoor space for Bryan Jr. to play.

The Paynther family learned about the Habitat program through their church, which has participated in the Habitat ECO Faith Build for several years. Their pastor—who is also Bryan’s uncle—encouraged them to apply. Before being accepted into the program as future homeowners, Bryan and Jeanne’ first served as Habitat volunteers.

Since joining the program, they have completed their sweat-equity hours at the ReStore, in the Habitat workshop, and on Habitat ECO construction sites, helping other partner families build their homes. In spring 2025, Bryan and Jeanne’ also completed homebuyer education classes, gaining essential skills in budgeting, financial planning, and home maintenance.

A Bright Future

Jeanne’ has worked at Cardworks for the past seven years. Bryan is an ordained minister and serves at his family’s church. As a family, they enjoy attending church together, taking road trips, and playing UNO. Bryan Jr. loves to draw and play sports and enjoys all kinds of games—from board games to video games.

The Paynther family eagerly looks forward to having a home they can truly call their own. They dream of the day when their son has his own room and Selena can age with dignity and comfort under the same roof. Their new Habitat home will bring much-needed relief and stability to a family that has been under significant pressure.
