FAMILY AND CURRENT HOUSING
After nineteen years of living in government housing, Habitat Partner, Claudia Massey, is more than ready to own her own home. Claudia and her two youngest sons live in a Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority (SMHA) duplex in Canton. There are several maintenance issues with the duplex including poor insulation and sealing around the windows, occasional plumbing issues in the bathroom that leak into the kitchen, and damaged tile flooring. While government housing assistance was a blessing to the Massey family for many years, Claudia is ready to finally put her money toward a home that she actually owns and can leave as a legacy for her sons. Thirteen-year-old Amarion loves football and computers, and his younger brother, Morgan, is an artist who loves to draw. Claudia also has an adult son, Don, who serves in the United States Navy. The Massey’s enjoy gathering with extended family for Sunday dinner and cooking out in the summertime. Once Claudia purchases her Habitat house, she will have a perfect space to host family for these special gatherings.
A BRIGHT FUTURE
Throughout her time in the Habitat program, Claudia has completed numerous hours of sweat equity at Habitat ReStore and on worksites. She also participated in the House2Home education series where she learned valuable skills regarding homeownership, maintenance, and personal and financial wellness. In addition to completing the weekly Habitat sweat equity hours and raising her children, Claudia works hard to provide for her family financially. She has been employed as a Therapeutic Program Worker (TPW) at Warrensville Developmental Center for eighteen years. Although sometimes doing all of this can seem like a lot, Claudia is committed to making a short term sacrifice for the long term benefit of owning her own home and providing a safe, decent, affordable place for her family to live and grow. When asked what she looks forward to most about owning her home, Claudia responded “I am excited for my children to be able to play outside and being able to do what I want to my home!”

In Support of Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio
As a grassroots Christian housing ministry serving Stark, Carroll, Tuscarawas, Harrison, and Jefferson Counties, Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio is driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live. People partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering, or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.
