James and Jasmine currently live in a two-bedroom apartment in Massillon. Both are native to the Massillon area, and they look forward to raising their young family in the community they love. They have lived in their rental for six years, and as rent continues to rise, they don't feel they can find anything in a price range that would make moving worthwhile.

The apartment has inoperable windows and plumbing issues throughout the unit. A tree fell on the property in 2019, and aspects of the apartment were never repaired properly. Water leaks into the bedrooms from the roof, and their bathroom sink leaks into the apartment below them. Because of the excess moisture, James and Jasmine run dehumidifiers and air purifiers throughout the unit to combat mold that has started to form. The light switch in Vivian's room buzzes, and the light flickers when they walk around the room.

James and Jasmine have worked diligently in the Habitat program, attending all of their sweat equity assignments with a willingness to learn and to help other families in the program. Together, they have completed hours on construction sites and at the Habitat workshop, and they graduated from the twelve-week, House2Home homebuyer education series in spring 2026, gaining skills in finances, home maintenance, lawn care, and personal development.

    A Bright Future

James currently works at MK Morse as a bandsaw coil packer, and Jasmine stays home caring for their daughter. Vivian is a loving toddler who is smart and outgoing. She likes Dr. Seuss books and learning about animals.

James and Jasmine hipe to continue growing their family, and they want to do that in a home of their own, one with safe walls, dry rooms, and a space for Vivian to grow. For them, homeownership is about more than a mortgage. It's the foundation for the generational shift they're working toward: a stable, healthy home that gives their family roots in the community they already call home, and a future built on their own hard work and hope.
